Hi everyone!

Welcome to another videogame inspired nail art, as you may already know this is one of my favourite sections of the blog, and I'm trying to make Game & Nails a monthly section. We've seen three games for the moment: The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, Bust-a-Move and Spyro the Dragon. Today I show you the first game of one of my favourite characters from Nintendo: Kirby.
I'm sure you know him!


Kirby nació en 1992 gracias a este videojuego (el que podéis ver en la foto): Kirby's Dream Land para la Game Boy, desarrollado por HAL Laboratory y publicado por Nintendo. A pesar de que todos conocemos a este personajillo en color rosa, hubo bastante confusión con su color al principio. La primera Game Boy solo podía procesar los juegos en blanco y negro, y además dos de sus creadores no se decidían entre amarillo o rosa haha. Esto hizo que en las cajas y cartuchos americanos y europeos apareciera un Kirby blanco ;).

Kirby was born in 1992 at the same time as his first videogame (the one in the photo) Kirby's Dream Land for the Game Boy, developed by HAL Laboratory and published by Nintendo. We all know this little character by it's pink colour but it actually was a little bit confusing at the beginning. First of all, the first Game Boy could only process games in black and white, then two of it's creators wouldn't decide if yellow or pink will suit Kirby better. As a result we have american an european boxes and games with a very white Kirby ;).


En esta aventura Kirby ha de recorrer cuatro niveles diferentes y derrotar a sus jefes hasta llegar a su principal objetivo: ganar en una batalla al glotón Rey Dedede que ha robado toda la comida de Dream Land. Precisamente en mis uñas he querido representar los cuatro jefes: Whispy Woods, Lololo & Lalala, Kaboola y Krako, junto al Rey Dedede persiguiendo al pobre de Kirby :P.
Es un videojuego sencillo y bastante más corto que cualquier otro, sus creadores querían diseñar un juego fácil para cualquier tipo de persona y que pudieran acabar. Para solucionar su sencillez, decidieron agregar una clave secreta al final del juego para optar a una versión más difícil del mismo.

In this adventure Kirby has to travel through four different levels and beat four bosses until he reaches his main goal: defeat greedy King Dedede who has stolen all the food from Dream Land. That is what I decided to draw on my nails, the four bosses: Whispy Woods, Lololo & Lalala, Kaboola and Krako, and King Dedede chasing after little Kirby :P.
This videogame is easier and shorter than the usual games, their creators wanted to design an accessible and easy to play game, their main aim was that everybody could end the game. But it's not a problem if you are an expert player because they decided to add a secret code at the end of the game for a more difficult mode.


Para realizar este nail art he usado un esmalte blanco como base, en mi caso es uno de Carlo di Roma, pero sigo en busca del esmalte blanco perfecto. Tras darle una capa de top coat empecé a dibujar con acrílico gris y negro, el porqué del top coat es importante ya que si nos equivocamos será más fácil rectificar el error con un poco de agua :). Ya sabéis que no os puedo explicar exactamente cómo hago estos freehands pero si puedo deciros que usar primero gris para perfilar las figuras y después negro para contornearlas me ha ayudado bastante en tomas de colocar el diseño centrado.
Kirby me encanta, pero este videojuego lo recuerdo con cariño ya que me vienen a la memoria grandes momentos con mi Game Boy ♥.

I used a white nail polish as a base for this nail art, mine's from Carlo di Roma but I'm still trying to find the perfect white polish. After applying a layer of top coat I started to draw with grey and black acrylic paints. The top coat first is important because it's easier to correct any mistakes that we may draw with some water :). As you already know I can't explain exactly how I do my freehand, but one thing I can tell you: using grey paint first has help me a lot with the placement of the drawing.
I love Kirby so much, but I have a lot of great memories with this videogame and my Game Boy ♥.
